While the plumbers were at the job site today, I was not. It was critical that I revised the electrical plan today. Now that the home has taken it's form, I spent last week walking through the spaces and checking the measurements to see how it related to the "as built" to the drawn design. The builder and I were constantly reviewing this information as the home was being built, so there were little changes to the drawings. But still there were some, and I thought it would be helpful to update the drawings as well as really pinpoint the locations of all the light fixtures. I spent from 8AM-12:30PM updating the information and creating a packet for the electrician showing all the fixtures that have been selected.

Something similar for the front porch |
In the morning, I pick up the blueprints showing the updated electrical plans. At 11 AM, I have an on site appointment with the pool contractor. He wants to see the as built conditions so that he can draw up a formal contract. The one we received months earlier was just a proposal.
At 1:30PM I meet with the electrical contractor to do a walk through of the first floor. I am able to give him the updated drawings as well as the packet. It is not usual to have all your fixtures selected at this point.
Tip: It's not customary to hand the lighting selections to the electrician at this stage in the game, but if you can get it done, when you do the walk through, you have his expertise in reviewing your selections. Adjustments can be made easily at this point, even before the first wire is pulled.
During our walk through he had several recommendations that improved the lighting in the home. He recommended an additional pendant in the laundry room, a different fixture for gallery lighting, and suggested outlets for a future humidifier, and fireplace mantel, as well as other small details.

The painters are onsite today. They are putting the primer on the entire home now. If you look at the picture to the left you can see the white primer, compared to the yellow untreated fiber cement board. The plumbers on site today as well. They are busy working all through the house installing the water lines. I meet again with the electrician, now to go over the 2nd floor electrical needs. He is just so good! He gave me recommendations that were so numerous, that after the meeting is over, I head to the lighting showroom to update the additions/subtractions.
in less than an hour, installed |
Today, I'm meeting with our representative from Cassity Jones to walk through the home and verify the interior door sizes and swings on each of the doors.
Caps arrive |
Metal caps in Burnished Slate arrive to place on top of each of the fireplaces today. The painters are here today, but not the plumbers. With no one inside the house working, I decided to get back to broom cleaning the home. I worked a full day so the next time a trade comes in to work, the space will be clean.

I drop by the house today to see what might be going on. The painters have a crewman out sick today, so they will be back working on Friday. There are no plumbers, and no HVAC, so I take off the day and head to Dallas. Later I learn that the HVAC crew start work after lunch and work on Saturday as well. When I check my email, I see I have an updated quote for the lighting! Now that's a GREAT response time! Thank you for that!
Monday next week will be exciting. What to look forward to: the body of the house color will be applied, and our builder will return from vacation.
