The painters return to finish the pergola. It takes 4 men brushing by hand to complete it, and it took all day! I joked with them, as to whether or not they kept painting until they ran out of buckets of paint. It looked like it would pass my inspection hours before they finished. But they knew this would be the first and last time the pergola would be painted, since I plan to add a climbing "something" on it when landscaping is added. It looks great to me!
Around 4PM the HVAC crew returns to finish up and add some additional work that my builder felt was necessary. Today was a busy day, with the painters, the HVAC, and a 4 hour, second walk through, meeting with the cabinet maker. Also on the property today, was our bank representative, checking progress and workmanship, as well as the pool contractor. Yes, it's a little early for a pool to be installed, but he needs to keep us aware that he'd prefer to get in the backyard with his heavy equipment BEFORE the driveway is put in, and PVC pipes are installed underground. Makes sense to me. We just won't "finish" it until we are ready to move in, or the weather goes back to warmer, next year.

No one is scheduled to come out to the property today, except maybe the roofers. So I head into Dallas to visit 8 tile showrooms. The sheetrock isn't even up yet, and some would say this is early. But because I am trying to find products that will be classic and traditional, it won't be as easy to find some of the things I'm looking for, such as floor tile in the guest bath that will blend/match the circa. 1885 wash basin planned to be installed into this room. It was a fun day. I visited:
I even buzzed over to Uncommon Market and found 6 old pocket door pulls for the price of 1 new one.

Today I head back to the job site, but before I do, I stop at 3 more tile showrooms:

GAF Timberline HD - Slate |
When I get back to the house, 2 men are working on the roof. It looks great! I chose the less obvious roof shingle. I did NOT go with the Weatherwood, often seen on homes in this area. I chose GAF HD Timberline Slate. This asphalt shingle has more blues and greens in it. The weather was cold and windy today and when I looked across the street to the water in the inlet, the color matched the roof exactly. I wasn't trying to match the lake when I made the selection, but seeing the color match reaffirmed my decision to go in this direction. Can't wait to see the whole roof completed.

This afternoon I have an on site meeting with the builder. Things are moving along. I know he is making phone calls and getting trades out here to work seamlessly. However, we haven't had a chance to walk through the job together since last Monday. For my own peace of mind, I feel better if I can walk through the house with him and discuss issues, at least on a weekly basis. Things aren't moving at such a rapid pace as when the framers were here. Some folks will tell you this is the "slow" period of the construction phase. It is a different tempo, but I wouldn't call it slow. I do have a chance to catch my breath, and schedule some off site appointments like the field trip to Dallas for tiles. But there are still details that need to be reviewed and attention required to what is going in behind the walls BEFORE the walls start going in. So it's these details that I would like to review with my builder.

Great walk through with my builder yesterday. Over time my list had become 2 pages. We went over everything. Together we resolved issues, confirmed others, and each of us made lists of items that each of us needed to look into. It was a cold day at 35 degrees, yet it was so worth it! On the way home I grabbed some hot Green Chili Soup to warm up.
Today I started a new project and worked with Becky Jo in selecting the Gathering Room fabrics and furnishings. Since my first job out of college was working as an interior designer in a furniture store back in Bucks County PA, I hadn't poured through fabric swatches in years. It was a fabulous working meeting and we made a lot of progress. Thank you Becky Jo. Later in the day I met with my flooring consultant, Glenda. We made great progress after pouring over all the samples I brought back from Dallas. We conquered the guest bath upstairs, the scullery , and the range kitchen I'm waiting on samples from the above mentioned showrooms before a decision can be made on the master bathroom suite.
Once "home" at the apartment, I received gifts from my husband, a blanket to curl up in at the job site, matching hat, gloves and scarf. Welcomed, considering all our fall and winter clothes are in storage and this has been a very atypical weather streak this week. I appreciated the the gift more than ever this week. Thank you Jack!
Til next week....we're getting closer.....
one busy day for one busy lady. Looking good
